The  Seventy  Weeks

of Daniel 9

Dan. 9:24  --  Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to:

                    1.  Finish transgression

                    2.  Put an end to sin

                    3.  To atone for wickedness

                    4.  To bring in everlasting righteousness

                    5.  Seal up vision and prophecy

                    6.  Anoint the most holy.

I believe it is a safe statement that none of these goals have been obtained.  Is this because the Israelites have failed to carry out their end of the bargain?  Could it be because the time scheduled for fulfillment is still future and has always been prophesied to this specific time in history?

In studying this prophecy for a period of years I have always been impressed by the great difficulty of making the pieces fit to represent Christ at His First Coming.  I believe the reason for this is that all the events in this prophecy are scheduled to take place during this time of great tribulation just like all the other events which are scheduled for this end-time entity.  He is referred to as "wickedness revealed in human form" in 2 Thess. 2:3 (NEB).  I believe that the KJV gets us off to a wrong road in our trying to understand this prophecy.

Dan. 9:25 KJV  --  Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and three score and two weeks...
Vs. 26 -- And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself.

I don't know whether this is a demonstration of paraphrasing or just not having available the best manuscripts.  I believe several of the newer versions of the Bible make it plain what this is trying to tell us.

Dan. 9:25,26 NRSV --  Know therefore and understand: from the time that the word went out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the time of an anointed prince, there shall be seven weeks...
Vs. 26 --  After the 62 weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing.

When we see an anointed one we immediately think of Christ, but remember this great counterfeit is coming as god, claiming to be above every god and will be successful in deluding most of the world to believe that he is God.

Now let us see this same passage in the eyes of the New English Bible:

Dan. 9:25,26 NEB  --  Know then and understand: from the time that the word went forth that Jerusalem should be restored and rebuilt, seven weeks shall pass till the appearance of one anointed, a prince;...
Vs. 26 --  At the critical time, after the 62 weeks, one who is anointed shall be removed with no one to take his part.

Dan. 9:25,26 --  Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the anointed one (footnote: or an anointed one) the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens’...
Vs. 26 --  After the 62 ‘sevens’ the anointed one will be cut off and will have nothing.

I believe for this prophecy to fit into the time of the Great Tribulation that it must be in real time -- seventy literal weeks.  As you study this prophecy carefully you will see that that is the only way the entire prophecy fits and makes sense.

Notice in the NEB verse 26 "At the critical time, after the 62 weeks, one who is anointed shall be removed with no one to take his part."  Now compare this with "the king who exalts himself" in Dan. 11, where he speaks of this same entity who will exalt and magnify himself above every god.

Dan. 11:44,45 --  But reports from the east and the north will alarm him, and he will set out in a great rage to destroy and annihilate many.  (Abomination that causes desolation)
He will pitch his royal tents between the seas at the beautiful holy mountain.  (At Jerusalem for the Battle of Armageddon)  Yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.

"He will pitch his royal tents" -- he is the anointed prince, the great counterfeit.  Yet he will come to his end and no one will help him.  Let us see how this evil entity under various aliases comes to his end.  This abomination that causes desolation in Dan. 9:27 "until the end that is decreed is poured out on him."  Let us carefully look at the end that is poured out on him in his various portrayals.

Dan. 7:11 -- Then I continued to watch because of the boastful words the horn was speaking.  I kept looking until the beast was slain and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire.  (Boastful words  claiming to be God.   Blazing fire burning sulfur.)

Speaking of this same evil entity at the Battle of Armageddon he is called Gog and is the general in charge of the One World Order arrayed against Christ and His army.

Eze. 38:21,22 --  I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign Lord.  Every man's sword will be against his brother.  I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and his troops and on the many nations with him(One World Order with its 10 kings and their 10 armies).

Rev. 19:19,20 -- Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth (10) and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse (Christ) and His army.
But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet (Christ is the true prophet) who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf.  With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshipped his image.  The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

Dan. 8:25 -- (Speaking of this same horn power) He will cause deceit to prosper and he will consider himself superior.  When they consider themselves secure he will destroy many (Abomination that causes desolation) and will take his stand against the Prince of princes(The rider on the white horse -- Christ) Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power.   (By burning sulfur that Christ rains down on him.)

So far we have been learning about an anointed one, a prince who after a period of time specified will be cut off and have nothing.  We are then introduced to another ruler who will come.

Dan. 9:26 --  After the 62 ‘sevens’ the anointed one will be cut off and have nothing.  The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary.

The ruler who will come is speaking of Christ at His Second Coming.  The other, the counterfeit Christ, is already here.  Note how Ezekiel vividly portrays this:

Eze. 38:17-20 --  This is what the Sovereign Lord says: "Are you not the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel?  At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them.  (For years and in many prophetic books.)
"This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, " declares the Sovereign Lord.
"In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel.  The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence.
"The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground."

I believe this is speaking of this ruler who will come and destroy the city and the sanctuary.  This to take place at the Second Coming as described so well above.

Before this final battle at Armageddon as described above, Gog and this One World Order Conglomerate attacked and subjugated Jerusalem and the land of Israel.  This occurred 3–l/2 years earlier.

Eze. 38:8,9 -- (God is speaking to Gog) In future years you will invade a land that has recovered from war, whose people was gathered from many nations to the mountains of Israel, (Israel today) which had long been desolate.
They had been brought out of the nations, and now all of them live in safety.  You and all your troops and the many nations with you will go up, advancing like a storm; you will be like a cloud covering the land.

This battle occurs while Israel is living peacefully in their land.  They are conquered and trampled (brutalized for 3–l/2 yrs.) following which this evil Conglomerate returns to Jerusalem to finish them off.

This battle turns out differently as we have noted in this battle as described by Ezekiel.  We need to turn to Zechariah who gives the best picture of what occurs at this initial battle of Israel versus the One World Order with Gog as their general.

Zech. 13:8,9 --  In the whole land (land of Israel) declares the Lord, 2/3 will be struck down and perish; yet l/3 will be left in it.  This l/3 I will bring into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold.
They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, "They are my people," and they will say, "The Lord is our God."

For 2000 years God has turned His back on them and during this 2000 years they have steadfastly refused to accept Christ as their savior.  This last verse states that this has now changed.

Zec. 14:2 -- I will gather all the nations (One World Order) to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped.  Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city.

When this One World Order with their 10 kings and their armies and Gog as their general attack the land of Israel, 2/3 of the population of Israel will be struck down and perish.  Of the third that remain, 50% are sent as exiles into the 10 nations represented there and the other 50% remain in Jerusalem and undergo trampling.  This brutalizing, raping, torturing and unspeakable treatment is to be brought to an end with Christ's Second Coming when the prisoners are set free and those exiled are brought home.   Note the condensed complete story of these events as prophesied by Isaiah.

Isaiah 29:1-6 --  Woe to you, Ariel, Ariel, the city where David settled!  Add year to year and let your cycle of festivals go on.
Yet I will besiege Ariel; she will mourn and lament, she will be to me like an altar hearth.
(Covered with blood and sacrifices)
I will encamp against you all around; I will encircle you with towers and set up my siege works against you.
Brought low, you will speak from the ground; your speech will mumble out of the dust.  Your voice will come ghostlike from the earth; out of the dust your speech will whisper.
(Being trampled in the dust)

But your enemies will become like fine dust, the ruthless hordes like blown chaff.
Suddenly, in an instant, the Lord Almighty will come with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with windstorm and tempest and flames of a devouring fire
(The Second Coming for sure)

This is when the trampled are set free, after 3–l/2 years of trampling.  I believe that this is the destruction of Jerusalem that this prophecy is speaking of.   When the word goes forth to restore and rebuild the damage done to Jerusalem at that time we begin the count of seven weeks which brings us to the time when this counterfeit god will be anointed.

We know that those Israelites who were captured and brutalized in Jerusalem during the time of the Great Tribulation were to suffer a limit of 3–l/2 years (or 42 months).

Rev. 11:1,2 --  Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the worshipers there.  But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles.  They will trample on the holy city for 42 months.

This counterfeit "anointed one" is called the "abomination that causes desolation."  What an appropriate name.  For 3–l/2 years he is scheduled to rule the earth.  Due to the global catastrophes announced by the trumpets, a third of the earth's population is destroyed.  These seven plagues associated with the sounding of the Seven Trumpets are involving the same items that the Seven Last Plagues involve.  The difference is that these first seven plagues are produced by the counterfeit god and account for the Great Tribulation.  These are experienced in various degrees by all the inhabitants of the earth.  They represent Earth's last wake-up call to accept the gospel.

At the completion of these seven first plagues, at the sounding of the Seventh Trumpet, there is an ann-ouncement beginning Christ's reign on this earth.

Rev. 11:15 --  The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever...

Vs.18  --  The nations were angry and your wrath has come.

Up until the trumpet sounded Satan was the prince of this earth,
but at the sounding of this trumpet, Christ began His reign on this earth.  Wouldn't this be the proper time to say that this counterfeit anointed one was cut off and would have nothing.  The wrath of Satan as expressed in the Seven Trumpets has ended and now "your wrath has come."  This is now the time for the real thing.   These are the Seven Last Plagues.

Rev. 15:1  --  I saw in heaven another great and marvelous sign: seven angels with the seven last plagues -- last, because with them God's wrath is completed.

Another difference in the Seven Last Plagues is that they are poured out only on the unsaved who have refused to accept the gospel which had been preached to them by God's personally selected witnesses -- the 144,000.

Ps. 91:7-10 (KJV) --  A thousand shall fall at thy side, and 10,000 at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.  Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked...
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

One further thought about the plagues associated with the trumpets; those that are brought about by the counterfeit to deceive the world to believe that he is god.  Consider the plague associated with the First Trumpet.

Rev. 8:7 -- The first angel sounded his trumpet and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down upon the earth.  A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.

Here we see fire hurled down upon the earth from the heavens.  Now let us see him in another setting as the "lamb-like beast." He looks like a lamb, but speaks like a dragon.

Rev. 13:13,14  --  And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven in full view of men.  Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth.

Wouldn't this be an impressive way to introduce himself to the inhabitants of the earth; saying that these plagues were necessary because so many refused to believe in him?  We know Paul was speaking of this same entity in his letter to the Thessalonians.

2 Thess. 2:9,10  --  The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing.
They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

Six items that are listed at the initiation of this prophecy are culminated in the last week of this seventy weeks.  We know that these things have not been accomplished in the past so must be referring to a future fulfillment.  I believe it is vital to understand Paul's description of when this will happen.

Rom. 11:25-27 --  I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.
And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.  And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins."
(Paul quotes from Isaiah 59:20,21; 27:9.)

Now we can see that we have no reason to expect these six items to be fulfilled until the last Gentile has been called in.  Certainly this has not happened yet.  This must take place during the 70th week of this prophecy.

Dan. 9:27 -- He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven,’ but in the middle of that ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering.

Who is the "He" referring to? It has to refer to the last person mentioned, "the people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary."  (As we have noted earlier this refers to Christ.)

We now know that this covenant can't be implemented until the last Gentile is called in.  This must occur when the witnesses have finished their testimony.  This must refer to the time to begin this important week.  The beast that comes from the Abyss attacks them, overpowers and kills them (Rev.11:7).  This bring us to the middle of the week.

"In the middle of the week he will put an end to sacrifice and offering."  With the martyrdom of all the witnesses (144,000) there are no more sacrifices available.  We know that several of them have been undergoing martyrdom prior to that time:

Rev. 6:9-11 --  When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they maintained.
They cried out in a loud voice, "how long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?"
Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed.

The 144,000 are listed as servants or servants the prophets throughout Revelation.  These were slain because of their preaching the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.  Rev.19:10 says that the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy.  These are martyred prophets.  These martyrs represent the sacrifices and now with martyrdom of the remaining at this middle of the week puts an end to further sacrifices.

This will also cause offering to end.  The offering is the everlasting gospel which these 144,000 witnesses have been offering to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people for the past 1260 days.  This has now come to an end.

Their dead bodies lie unattended as they are refused burial for 3–l/2 days following their martyrdom.  This represents the second half of this week.  After the 3-l/2 days a breath of life from God entered them and they rose to their feet and were called up to heaven by a loud voice.  (Rev. 11:11,12.)

Dan. 9:27 --  And one who causes desolation will place abominations on a wing of the temple.

Remember that because of rebellion two things were handed over to this evil entity:

Dan. 8:12  --  "Because of rebellion:

                                      (1)   the host of the saints                                        (2)   and the daily sacrifice

                            were given over to it."

This rebellion it is speaking of is the 2000 years that the Israelites have refused to accept Christ as their Savior.  They are the host of the saints that were handed over to this evil power.  Jesus, speaking of this same time and events says:

Luke 21:22-24 --  For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written...

Vs. 24  --  They will fall by the sword (2/3 will be struck down and perish) and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations.  (50% of the surviving l/3 are exiled to the 10 nations of the One World Order)  Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles (the remaining 50% of the survivors) until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.  (At Christ's Second Coming)

Notice how strongly it stresses that they were given over to it.

Dan. 7:25  -- (Speaking of the horn power) The saints will be handed over to him for a time, times and half a time.  (3–l/2 years -- The times of the Gentiles being fulfilled.)

Zech. 14:2 -- I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it.

Rev. 11:2 --  But exclude the outer court, do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles.  They will trample on the holy city for 42 months.  (3–l/2 years)

Eze. 38:17  --  (Speaking to Gog -- this same evil entity) This is what the Sovereign Lord says: "Are you not the one I spoke of in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel.  At that time they prophesied for years that I would bring you against them."

The other thing handed over to this evil entity was the daily sacrifice.  In the Book of Numbers under the heading of daily offerings we note the following:

Num. 28:1-4 --  The Lord said to Moses, "Give this command to the Israelites and say to them: ‘See that you present to me at the appointed time the food for my offerings made by fire.

Vs. 4  --  Prepare one lamb in the morning and the other at twilight.

These offerings were to continue on an every day basis.  That is why they are referred to as the Daily and in some translations the continual.  They are also called the evening - morning.  Each referring to these daily sacrifices.

These are the offerings that He states are made by fire -- a pleasing aroma.  This sanctuary service in heaven that represented the holding back the winds of strife of the Great Tribulation corresponded to the daily evening - morning sacrifices in the earthly sanctuary.  This was the ‘daily sacrifice’ that was handed to this evil entity.  Notice how this is portrayed.  Before the four angels, who had been given power to harm the earth, were allowed to proceed, an angel seals the 144,000 servants of God in their foreheads and then --

Rev. 8:3-6 --  Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar.  He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of the saints, on the golden altar before the throne...  Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar and hurled it on the earth.  (Representing the daily sacrifice service which was terminated in the heavenly sanctuary and hurled to the earth, indicating it being handed over to this evil entity.)
Vs. 6 -- Then the seven angels who had the

seven trumpets prepared to sound them.
(Let the counterfeiter's plagues begin!)

Now consider the question advanced in:

Dan. 8:13 --  How long will it take for the vision to be fulfilled the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes desolation, and the surrender of the sanctuary of the host that will be trampled under foot?

Vs. 14 -- He said to me, "It will take 2300 evenings & mornings; then the sanctuary will be re-consecrated."

In the Hebrew manuscript these are in the singular; evening - morning.  Isn't this obvious that this is speaking of evening & morning sacrifices as the question would suggest?  Why would Daniel use this to mean 2300 days when he clearly uses the word for days in the passage relating to 1290 and 1335 days?  I believe the KJV tried to tell us, in all good intentions, what evening and morning meant, but they were wrong.

This then would indicate a time of 1150 days or 2300 evening and morning sacrifices.  If these services were terminated in the heavenly sanctuary when the censer was cast down, could their reinstitution after 1150 days (or 2300 skipped services) by the counterfeit god be referring to -- "and one who causes desolation will place abominations on a wing of the temple until the end that is decreed is poured out on him?

From the time the censer is cast down until the Second Coming is 1335 days.  This would indicate that this temple would be reconsecrated 1150 days following the casting down of the censer and these services would continue until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.  This would be 185 days later and what is decreed for him is a lake of burning sulfur.

"There will be no more delay!"  Rev.10:7.  This is announcing the beginning of this time of the Great Tribulation and signaled by the angel at the altar of incense throwing his incense filled censer onto the earth.  "But in the days when the Seventh Angel is about to sound his trumpet."  This is the signal for the end of Satan's Great Tribulation -- the seven first plagues and the mystery of God will be accomplished.  This mystery of God is referring to God's secret plan to bring confession, repentance and salvation to the trampled Israelites in Jerusalem.

This week of these events can only fit in the time between which the witnesses finish their testimony and the Seventh Angel sounds his trumpet.  These Israelites can't become converted until this spiritual hardening has been removed and this has been scheduled when the last Gentile comes in.  The process to bring this about is also noted in the text Paul was quoting from.

Isa. 27:8,9 --  By warfare and exile you contend with her -- with his fierce blasts he drives her out, as on a day the east wind blows.  (They have been trampled and exiled by the Gentiles for nearing 3–l/2 years at the time this is referring to.)
By this, then, will Jacob's guilt be atoned for, and this will be the full fruitage of the removal of his sins.

This trampling and exiling humbles them and prepares them for God's great one week evangelistic series on their behalf.  These activities as noted in Zechariah must be in this week.

Zech. 13:1 -- On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse them from sin and impurity.

There are many places in the Bible that describes this bringing of confession, repentance and turning to Christ by the Israelites.  They are all given in an end-time setting, usually denoted as the day of the Lord as given above.  It is not to be a long drawn-out procedure as we know it is prophesied to occur during this 70th week -- representing 7 days and not 7 years.

Zech. 3:8,9 --  Listen, O high priest Joshua and your associates, seated before you, who are symbolic of things to come: (high priest Joshua symbolic of Christ)
"I am going to bring my servant, the Branch.  See the stone I have set in front of Joshua!  There are 7 eyes on that one stone, and I will engrave an inscription on it, says the Lord Almighty, "And I will remove the sin of this land in a single day."

Shortly after these miraculous changes are made in the lives of these trampled and exiled Israelites, all this trampling and exiling is brought to an end by the Second Coming of Christ.  A description of these trampled and exiled survivors after deliverance from 3–l/2 years of abuse follows:

Isa. 4:2-4 --  In that day (after Second Coming) the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel.
Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem will be called holy, all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem.
(These are the remnant, the survivors, all that remain from the land of Israel.  Paul is referring to those when he states that all Israel will be saved and these verses bear it out.)

The Israelites were the first to receive the gospel and the commission to propagate it and only after they completely rejected Christ and His gospel did God harden them in this position of unbelief.

He then assigned spiritual Israelites to promote His gospel.  Now the tables are turned and only after the last Gentile is brought in, at this end-time event, does He bring salvation to the Israelites as a people -- to those survivors in the land of Israel.  And unfortunately only a small remnant of them remaining in the land of Israel are included in that great harvest that is taking place throughout the world.

This evidence that "God's secret plan," is to bring salvation to these abused Israelites indicates that they are still special to Him.  Only their rebellion has prevented them from fulfilling the purpose of God for them.  They were given the opportunity of being foremost in carrying the gospel throughout the earth and to be prominent in this earth's harvest.  Instead only a remnant of them, by God's grace, is brought in as a brand plucked from the burning.  Individually, Israelites throughout this earth are accepted by God as they make their choice to accept Christ as their Savior, the same as the rest of mankind.

I believe we have covered the first four items to be accomplished during the 70th week of this 70-week allotted to the Israelites, but we need to consider the last two.

(5)  Seal up vision and prophecy.

(6)  To anoint the Most Holy.

We find that all six items must and do occur during the 70th week when this spiritual hardening is scheduled to be removed and which will then allow all the measures to be implemented.

Item (5) to seal up vision and prophecy.  In speaking of the day of the Lord at the end-time --

Zec. 13:1-3 -- "On that day a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.
"On that day, I will banish the names of the idols from the land, and they will be remembered no more," declares the Lord Almighty.
"I will remove both the prophets and the spirit of impurity from the land.  And if anyone still prophesies, his father and mother, to whom he was born, will say to him, ‘You must die, because you have told lies in the Lord's name.  When he prophesies his own parents will stab him."

This indicates that any prophet at that time can only be a false prophet.  The 144,000 servants the prophets (real prophets) have just been taken to heaven following their martyrdom (Rev.11:11,12).  "I will remove the prophets from the land."

The Seventh Trumpet sounds immediately following the calling of the 144,000 witnesses to life and rapturing them to heaven.  Loud voices from heaven were then heard to say: The kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ and He will reign for ever and ever (Rev.11:15).  If Christ begins his reign on this earth as is so plainly stated, what need is there for vision and prophecy as we have the source for both of these in person to "instruct us in His ways."

Item (6)  To anoint the Most Holy.

I believe we have just answered that with the quote from Rev. 11:15.  Christ is anointed King of kings and Lord of lords at the time announced by the seventh trumpet.  It announces the close of the 70th week, the beginning of the seven last plagues and completion of this Covenant that He will confirm with many for one week (God's secret plan).  Lastly it will announce the beginning of Christ's' reign on this earth.

We know that the ten northern tribes of Israel were carried off by Assyria in 722 BC and were soon blended into the nations of the earth with no trace of them identifiable as Israelites.  We also know that these 144,000 servants are selected by God and sealed with the Holy Spirit 3–l/2 years before this spiritual hardening of the Israelites is scheduled to be removed.  This then allows these remnant Israelites to again become reconciled to Christ and to obtain salvation as His special people.

The 144,000 are selected by God to reveal Christ to every nation, kindred, tongue and people prior to Christ's Second Coming.  I believe they are selected to fill the places of the 12 tribes of Israel by default.  The Northern kingdom because of their period of abandonment which was probably permanent.  The places of the Southern kingdom -- Judah and Benjamin because of their continuing state of rebellion, which was to end after the last Gentile was called in.

We must remember that those 144,000 represented the first fruits of this earth's harvest (Rev.14:4) and were personally selected by God and He alone knows who each one really is.  We know that they belong to Christ.

Gal. 3:29 --  If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Vss. 27,28 --  For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourself with Christ.  There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male or female, for you are one in Christ Jesus.

Then why do we try so hard to insist that those must come from literal Israelites?  We can see from the events that happen at that time that this is unlikely.  Some of them very well may be literal Jews that have fully accepted Christ, but there would be a small pool of those to choose 144,000 from.

I believe this will mostly be represented by those wild olive branches that will be grafted into the olive tree to replace those (Israelites) who were removed for unbelief (Rom.11:17-20).  These places were what the literal Israelites were scheduled for but lost by default.
